Belgrade sightseeing

Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, situated on the confluence of Sava and Danube, is where the first European civilization was born – Vinča, which is some 7,000 years old. Due to its geographical position, connecting Central Europe and the Middle East, Belgrade became a true mosaic of cultural influences, from Roman, Byzantine, Hungarian, Serbian, and Ottoman cultures. Belgrade is also one of the most conquered and most frequently demolished cities in the world.

You will learn about the history of Belgrade and the most well-known city landmarks while being accompanied by a professional tourist guide. You will see the center of Belgrade, the parliament building, and the building of the Government of Serbia. The ride will continue along Nemanjina Street, which hosts buildings built at the beginning of the 19th century when Belgrade architecture was at its peak. Nowadays, the remains of the Ministry of Defense are there too, which was bombed by NATO in 1999.

We will visit the House of Flowers and the Museum of Yugoslavia, where the grave of Josip Broz Tito is located. We will also enter the Church of Saint Sava, the largest Orthodox church in Balkan.

Lunch will be organized at 15h in a restaurant in the center of Belgrade. The afternoon is free.

15:30h

Sremski Karlovci

We will visit Sremski Karlovci, an old city on the shore of the Danube, located 8km from Novi Sad. The city center is full of astounding buildings, made in the 18th and 19th centuries when Sremski Karlovci was the most influential spiritual, cultural, and economic center of Serbia. Among the most significant buildings are the Patriarchate Court, the Summer Residency of the Serbian Patriarch, the Karlovac High School, and the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, all built in the 19th century. Travelling from the bottom of Šargan mountain on a route shaped like the number eight (hence the name), you will be transported back in time while enjoying the stunning mountain scenery and numerous tunnels and viaducts. At the beginning of the 20th century, the railway used to be a part of the railway from Belgrade to Sarajevo. After enjoying the breathtaking nature, you will arrive at the ethno village Drvengrad (Wooden Town), built by prominent movie director Emir Kusturica. The village, which includes the Mećavnik Hotel, houses, galleries, shops, a cinema and a church, is made of natural materials, mostly wood. Since 2008, the village plays host to the annual Küstendorf Film and Music Festival and Drvengrad has been visited by the likes of Johnny Depp, Monica Belucci, Jim Jarmusch and many others. After exploring Drvengrad, there will be a short drive to the famous Zlatibor Mountain, home of the first royal resort in Serbia. Here you can enjoy a relaxing walk around the quaint town center of this picturesque air spa. The bird’s wing span is about 3 m and they can weigh up to 11 kg, making it the biggest bird in Serbia. However, the griffon vulture is not the only attraction of the reserve; for centuries, the Uvac River has been making its way through the mountains, leaving deep meanders and creating caves that annually attract lots of tourists.
